C2C Cycle Route - Holidays & Support

CycleActive offers C2C trips on most weekends from April to October.

Established in 1996 we are the only C2C tour operator with the Cumbria Tourism ROAM quality assurance mark. This comes through in the way we run our holidays.

We include everything you need to make your ride run smoothly – bag transfers, accommodation, emergency support, transfers for you to the start/back from the finish and a fabulous afternoon tea with champagne at the end of your trip. We even keep one or two rooms at the guesthouse just so you can shower before you head home.

The C2C tour is one of our specializations - with our office almost at the centre of the route it ought to be! Our bespoke tour service works for everyone from clubs and charity fund raisers to corporate groups or just some friends who want their own tour, on their terms.

We can work to any budget, but still provide great service and a smooth trip. One example is our link to Brooklands Guesthouse – the only 5-star guesthouse in Penrith and block booked by CycleActive every season since 2001 at special rates for all of our clients.

At TDK Travel we can transport up to 32 passengers with cycles at any given time with one of our largest vehicles being a 16 seat luxury mini coach. This enables us to transport groups from 9 – 16 passengers with bikes on our own design cycle trailer at the same time.

We also have smaller vehicles capable of carrying 1 – 8 passengers in our 8 seat minibus & a cycle trailer which can carry up to 8 bikes.
A mixture of tandems and normal cycles can be transported on our own design trailers.

Whether we pick you up from Roker Pier or Tynemouth Priory or even Newcastle city centre, we can transport you from east to west over to Whitehaven, Workington or Walney Island.

Wanderlusts offer the only horse drawn gypsy caravan holidays, as well as stationary bow top gypsy wagons (vardos) in beautiful locations in and around Cumbria and the Lake District National Park, much of which runs along c2c routes in the Eden valley.

The Gypsy Caravan is mostly made of wood, lined on the inside with a warm and regal fabric , then a layer of felted wool insulation and covered in traditional canvas. Double bed (with bedding) plus 2 small fold out child's beds, gas hob, kettle fry pan pots cups plates cutlery, wash bowl, cupboards, bay window and stable door. Water container and a small stick burning stove to make it really cosy! There is also a bike rack for two bikes.

Chain Events is run by David Gray, who was the first Sustrans employee in the North East of England. His role in Sustrans involved planning, mapping and promoting the 140 mile scenic cycle route. Now his years of experience and knowledge can bring you the kind of adventure you've always wanted. Chain Events are here to take care of the frustrating logistics of organising transport, luggage and mechanical support.

For the C2C route, participants and their bikes will be transported from Sunderland to Whitehaven for the 70 mile cycle to Alston where their luggage will be waiting at a spectacular riverside campsite. An early start with a swift breakfast and departure for the second half of the ride to finish in Sunderland. Transfer to Whitehaven, luggage transfers on both days, campsite in Alston and emergency support on the road is all included in the price.
