Tynemouth is an historic resort located at the mouth of the river Tyne on the North East coast of England and is one of 2 finishing points on the route.
Prominent on the headland overlooking the river are the Tynemouth Priory and Castle which date back to the 11th century. The ruins are maintained by English Heritage and are open to the public.
The sealife Aquarium Centre is also well worth a visit. The town has plenty of shops, cafes, hotels, pubs and some B&B accommodation to suit most.
Located six miles from Newcastle-Upon-Tynes city centre Tynemouth offers the visitor stunning beaches along with a good small town feel, whilst being close enough to the city for those wanting to experience a true taste of city life. The town has it’s own station on the Tyne and Wear Metro system.
